Whether you are getting ready to join us on campus for the start of your programme or arriving on campus after starting your course from home, we are really looking forward to welcoming you to the University of Sheffield International College.
We know that studying abroad is a big decision to make, especially this year. There are already plenty of reasons to study in the UK, but we’ve made significant developments for this September to make sure that you’re safe, comfortable and happy while you study with us in 2021/2022.
Your student experience
Though we may have had to adapt our usual way of working and learning, we remain committed to providing you with a fantastic student experience.
Expert support from start to finish
Our Student Support team, based in the International College, will be available to help you throughout your time with us.
If you’re joining us in the UK, they’ll be able to help from when you are planning your arrival in the UK – including any quarantine support you may need - all the way through to when you are getting ready to progress to the University of Sheffield.
If you are studying virtually from home, we will continue to monitor your progress and have regular catchups to ensure you’re happy and on-track to progress successfully.
Janet, our Head of Student Support at the International College, spoke to us about how her and her team support students in our video.
With over 100 staff working with us at the International College, you will always be able to find someone who can help.
Studying with us virtually will mean that your programme will be delivered through our virtual learning environment. You’ll be a part of an engaged international community, have one-to-one support at every stage, and be taught via virtual teacher-led learning.
If you’re joining us in the UK, to create the safest possible learning environment, and whilst social distancing restrictions are in place, you will benefit from blended learning. You will also receive one-to-one support from our dedicated staff, giving you help and guidance every step of the way.
After feedback from our students, we have found some key benefits of blended learning:
Through interactive, engaging live virtual sessions, you will still receive the standard of teaching you expect from the University of Sheffield International College. If you join us in the UK, you will also have as many live teacher-led classes as possible.
Study at your own pace
After the live sessions you will be able to access all the study materials you need through our Virtual Learning Environment, whenever suits you. This is particularly helpful when it comes to revising for your exams or as reference when writing essays.
The Student Support team at the University of Sheffield International College have been working incredibly hard to put together an engaging range of activities. Through our activities, you will be able to become a part of an international community of like-minded students.
In our video, hear from Alex, one of our Student Support Officers, on how the International College has collaborated with students to create fun extra-curricular activities.
Whether you start online, or on campus, you’ll benefit from an induction week.
Nearer your start date, you will gain access to your Welcome Hub, where you can find your induction timetable and other useful information.
During your induction week, you’ll take part in a range of activities to make sure you’re settling into life as an International College student. We will take you through everything you need to know, including who will be teaching you, how to access your classes, your timetable, and who to contact should you need anything.
To make sure you maintain your mental health, we offer weekly drop-in sessions where you can talk to our staff about anything that’s on your mind. Leanne, our Student Support Coordinator, tells us more in our video.
We have other weekly events, such as the Cake and Conversation club, where you can try some of our staff’s favourite cake and socialise with your classmates. Claire, a Student Support Officer, shared more details in a video.
Your safety is our top priority. We’ve all adapted our way of living and working, and at the University of Sheffield International College, our excellent support staff have worked hard to make sure you feel safe and comfortable while you study on campus. We have taken the following steps to assist your safety:
- Hand sanitisation stations have been placed throughout campus buildings
- High-traffic areas will be cleaned regularly
- Students and staff will be encouraged to wear face coverings inside buildings
- Social distancing will be expected on campus, and our classrooms have been adapted to allow this
- Screens have been placed to protect you and our staff
Learn more about how we will keep you safe on campus in our video, presented by Kayleigh, the Deputy College Director.
